How to meditate in 7 simple steps.

Nowadays everyone heard of the word Meditation because of our stressful life. The English word Meditation is derived from the Latin word Meditari means “to think”. Many of us love eating eye-catching and delicious food. By eating we put food into our body, and it gets digested automatically without even knowing. And the body knows how to throw unwanted waste out of the body. But unfortunately, with a brain this auto system is not implemented, we keep on feeding the brain with negative thoughts and there is no way out.
We must implement this auto system by doing meditation. Meditation is a way of removing depression, stress, anxiety, anger, and many more bad things from ourselves and enhancing peace, calmness, confidence, and wellbeing. There are different practices meditator follows worldwide as per their culture.
Below are some well-known types of meditation.
• Guided meditation.
• Zen meditations.
• Mantra meditation.
• Transcendental meditation.
• Yoga meditation.
• Vipassana meditation.
• Qigong meditation.
• Visualization meditation.
• Mindfulness meditation.

Here I will tell you in detail about mindfulness meditation because it is very simple to do. Mindfulness means being aware of the current moment. Its ability to be in the current moment and aware of what we are doing. In this we don’t think of the past and future, we live in the current moment.
Mindfulness is being present in the current moment. Let’s understand it with an example. Consider you are very thirsty, and you saw a glass of water in Infront of you. As soon as you see a glass of water you feel happy because at that time you forget all your worries, and stress and you think only of a glass of water and you drink it happily. To become happy from the inside, we should think of the current moment and let go past and future.
The first question comes to people’s minds is that where I can meditate? Do I have to go to the jungle? Do I have to go to the mountains? no this is not required. You can do it anytime and anywhere. You can do it sitting on the sofa or you can do it in the garden.
It is just a mental exercise without any movement, only you must remember to keep your backbone straight so that energy can flow between your Chakras. Ok, don’t worry I will clear your basics on Chakras. In simple words, Chakras are the energy centers of your body.
There are main 7 chakras in our body and these are Muladhara, Svadhishthana, Manipura, Anahata, Vishuddha,Agya,Sahasrara. When you mediate it unblocks our chakras, this doesn’t mean it will open any chakras randomly, it follows the sequence and lots of lots of practice. Well, this is a very big topic and will cover it in the future.
Let’s go back to our topic, and follow the below 7 steps to start with mindful meditation.
1. Sit in a comfortable place.
2. keep your backbone straight.
3. Close your eyes and relax.
4. Now start slowly inhaling and exhaling. Same time concentrate on breathing.
5. Feel the warmth of breathing on tip of your nose. During this, your mind will flood with multiple thoughts, and your mind will try to give you an excuse not to do a meditation, but at that time you just have to ignore it.
6. So as your mind wanders bring it back to your breathing. Initially, you will find it very difficult but as you practice more and more you will be comfortable and will be able to concentrate easily.
7. Do this meditation at least for 15 minutes a day.
Initially, you will feel nothing but with more practice, you will feel some energy in your spinal cord. I have felt it many times. Now one question will pop up in your when I will get an energy feeling. This question doesn’t have an answer, it totally depends on your practice and your body. Some may feel it early or some may feel it later. But don’t stop doing it because with practice you will feel more confident, focused, energetic, powerful, positive, relaxed, and calm.
Below are some benefits of meditation.
- Increased Neurogenesis which generates new cells in the brain.
- Improved health by reducing stress.
- Maintain blood pressure.
- Slow aging makes you look younger.
- Makes you feel happier by releasing feel-good chemicals in the brain like endorphin and increases dopamine, serotonin, and melatonin.
- It reduces the size of the amygdala in your brain which is responsible for anxiety, stress, and fear.
- Meditation increases the thickness of the prefrontal cortex part of the brain, which is responsible for decision-making, emotions, self-control, and willpower.
