I was at the top of my career. I was enjoying it very much and had no plan to leave it because of my comfort zone. I spent almost 4.9 years in my last organization, but there are some parts of life that we can’t control. I was surrounded by negativity due to which I started feeling lonely.
To come out of it, I started doing meditation. Mediation is the best thing happened to me in my entire life. It helped me to stand again. It cleared the negativity from my mind. My brain felt younger and more energetic again. It’s very true you attract people with your mindset.

Every day in life we have to make decisions, which ultimately affects our life. What you choose makes your goal achievable. Decision-making is a process where we have a choice between alternatives. Here in decision-making, we gather information, process gathered information, and look for alternative resolutions. For some people taking a decision is a very difficult task. Even I struggled with it a lot. I mean I am not a pro at making decisions, but I apply some basics and decision-making techniques while making decisions. We often have different choices as to our preferred one or the approach based. These ways helped me a lot during a hard time, hope they will help you to make a decision when you don’t know what to do.

Below are some tips to make decisions, we will go through each point in detail.

1. Don’t take decisions on basis of feelings.

Our feelings play a very important role in our decision-making process. Let’s understand with an example. If you ask students what they like between movies and studying? Surely more than 90 % of the student will give an answer movie. We always choose things which we like most. We always take decisions basis our feeling. Our brain is configured in such a way that it always looks for pleasure. Here in this case movie is a pleasure and studies are boring. As we make decisions basis feelings, there is always an expectation and if that expectation is not filled, we get hurt emotionally and land up into a grudge, hatred, and many more negative things. Our decision should take us to the better place, not to the worst. Another example. You love someone deeply and you always hide his/her mistakes. That person takes you for granted and keeps on making mistakes, horribly treats you and you keep on loving. Now tell me what is the output of this relationship? The answer is nothing. You decided to stay with this person because of your feelings. The role of feelings is to make our life happy not sad. Never take decisions basis feelings, always choose things that are right for you.

2. Don’t make a decision when you are very happy or very sad.

When you are extremely happy you will always underestimate the risk associated with the decision. When we are happy, we tend to think only in a positive way, which is not a wrong thing at all. But sometimes our happiness doesn’t let us see the consequences of our decisions and which ultimately lands us in the wrong place. Let’s understand it with an example. When we order food while we are very hungry. We end up ordering more or probably eating more than we normally do. This happen to me many times, I ended up ordering two medium-size pizzas for myself, usually, I eat only one. In such a situation, it’s best for a person to not make any decision. This should not mean you should not order pizza; it means avoiding making decisions under extreme emotions. Now you will understand why we spend more money at pubs and casinos. Pubs and Casinos are designed with bright lights, loud noises, beautiful staff, and everything glittering just to make you excited to spend more money. When you are sad you are likely to set your goals lower. Setting low goals for yourself can prevent you from reaching your greatest potential. In sadness, we always think negatively. We try to find probabilities with this negative thought. Just because you’re feeling down, you may not negotiate for what you want, and you adjust to the situation. Always remember don’t promise anything when you are happy and don’t decide when you are sad.

3. Don’t focus on the result.

As human beings, we always judge our success by generated output. We give up on our dream because we are not able to see the correct result. We forget that we should always keep on trying. Focusing on results keeps you in control of whether you are going to achieve it or not. I understand it’s very difficult to continue when we don’t see any results. Instead of focusing on the result, we should start loving the implementation process and focus on the process that creates the result. This will help you enjoy the sweet fruits of your work.

4. Don’t fear the change (come out of your comfort zone).

Our routine doesn’t allow us to think much. Change in routine forces us to think in a different way which we don’t like. Don’t you love your comfort zone, we all love it. We often try to stay in it because we fear new changes. Our psychology is built in such a way that we always refuse to change, we change only when we don’t have any option. Change in routine or situation forces us to remember we don’t know things and we don’t have all the answers due to which we always resist change. But remember Change is our greatest teacher. We will come to know many things when we try to explore or change our routine. Don’t fear the change when it comes to decision-making. Let’s understand it with my example. I was working with the firm for more than 4.9 years. Throughout this long period, I made good friends. We used to spend time together and with this, I went into my comfort zone, which resisted me to change departments or learn new things, I never thought of changing jobs because I was having the fear that I will never get this type of friend in the new company. Due to this, my growth stopped during that period. With no extra technical skills which are highly required in the IT industry, no one was ready to offer me a good salary. This forced me to think and come out of my comfort zone. I conquered my fear learned new skills and got a higher-paying job and came out of my fear.

5. Don’t take decisions without faith/belief.

Doing something without faith or belief is useless. Faith and Beliefs are the main pillars of success. There is much more difference between “I can achieve it” and “I will achieve it”. I can achieve show belief in myself. If you read all successful people’s biography, they all have one common thing that is faith in what they are doing and belief of they are correct. While taking decisions always have faith in yourself, and don’t do things just because others are doing them.

6. Keep your goal high.

Always have high goals. Before setting a goal, ask yourself is this a small goal? Decide can I achieve more than this? Set specific goals, goals must be clear and should be well defined. Always include dates so that you can measure your degree of success. A person without a goal is nothing. Give high priority to your goal so that you can achieve it very easily. Follow the high achievers, they often recommend something, you should do to achieve your goals, read their success journey, and try to avoid mistakes they have done during this process.

7. Good for society.

Whatever decision I am taking is this good for the people around me? Ask this yourself before taking any decision. Will my decision bring happiness to society? If it is not good for society then how can I improve it so that it creates less impact? If you do bad things to others then karma will return to you and the same thing will happen to you, always remember this. Always make decisions that are beneficial for society.

8. Always ask am I taking this decision basis anger or attachment.

Never take a decision basis anger it will be always wrong. We should avoid decision-making in jealousy or attachment. During anger inside our brain, neurotransmitter chemicals known as catecholamines are released causing us to experience a burst of energy lasting up to several minutes. During this high-energy period, we often ignore risks associated with the decision which results in the wrong one. Always have a balanced mind for decision-making. We often favor people because of their attachments and ignore their mistakes. We say let’s give him/her one more chance and that person takes your granted and keeps on making mistakes. We should not take decisions basis attachments this may lead us towards failure.

9. Always discuss this with your friends and family.

It is proved in multiple studies that sharing your problems with your friends reduces stress and anxiety. Always discuss your decisions and problems with your loved ones, they might be having better solutions or approaches. Take their advice in difficult situations.

10. Trust in the lord.

This is the most important thing, always trust in the lord. Whatever decision you are taking just the tell lord and always remember God with you. Have belief in God. Deciding without trust in the lord is useless. Think that God is going to support you in your decision.
